Images that were eerily similar to the 9/11 "attacks" haunted China earlier today as a high-rise apartment building in Shanghai was engulfed by flames. The fire is said to have started in a stock of building materials being used in the 28 story structure's renovation and quickly spread up the tower. Residents escaped the flames by climbing down scaffolding on the outside of the apartment complex, and others were rescued by helicopters until the flames and smoke made further rescues impossible. At press time, the death toll stood at 42, and over 90 people were injured. Over 100 fire trucks took more than four hours to extinguish the inferno. More victims are expected to be pulled from the structure as fire fighters are now able to enter it.

Two scientists tell us that the future of space exploration and colonization lies in one-way trips. So, the Feds are finally doing something right in their own slow way. The Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services earlier today revealed that they are ramping up the fight against smoking with a strategy implemented by Canada in its own country. Each pack of cigarettes will carry a new warning label, covering half the pack front and back. The labels will feature photos of corpses or human body parts damaged by smoking-related diseases. When you run a show like this, you never know who you'll talk to when you open up your instant messenger during the program. During Monday's show I had the opportunity to talk to a person who said he was part of the production staff of the show "The Walking Dead". AMC scored a hit with this comic book adaptation. A retired Canadian couple did something very unusual with their lottery winnings. Allen and Violet Large of Nova Scotia won $11.3 million last July but quickly grew unsatisfied with the direction this new wealth was taking them. On Friday, Mount Merapi continued its roar back to life with the largest eruption in a century. The Indonesian volcano caused clouds of hot gas to shoot down its slopes and caused clothing and even mattresses to fuse with dead bodies from the 1400 degree heat. As of this week, Deutsch Telecom division T-Mobile has begun new ads in the United States, billing itself as "the nation's largest 4G network", which is both the truth and deceptive. The claim is valid because in the real world, 4G is commonly recognized as network speed as it refers to Internet connection. Taylor Swift is back with a vengeance, breaking a record standing for five years. After an extended period of not releasing any new material, the recording industry, and just about everone else, had pretty much cast her aside, even snubbing her at award shows. The island nation of Indonesia appears to be in self-destruct mode these days. On October 26, Mount Merapi, a dangerous volcano, exploded to life, claiming dozens of lives. Within 24 hours, a 7.7 earthquake struck the region, creating a ten-foot tsunami that killed over 440 people.
