Oracle Corporation, which earlier this year purchased Sun Microsystems and acquired its Java technology, is suing Google for copyright and patent infringement for developing the Android system for cell phones. In a statement, an Oracle official said that Google "knowingly, directly, and repeatedly infringed Oracle's Java-related intellectual property in developing Android". If the suit is successful, then Oracle will get royalties for every one of the more than 200,000 smartphones being sold every day. Google uses a "virtual machine" that does the same tasks as Java, but they hired some Sun Java engineers to develop it.

Iran's first nuclear plant will get fuel next week, courtesy of Russia. The fuel will be loaded into the Bushehr Reactor on August 21 in spite of United States protests. We want Iran to assure the world that it won't use the plant for military use, yet our fears are unfounded since the uranium will only be enriched about 3.5 percent, Uranium must be enriched at least to 20 percent for weapons grade, and an atomic bomb needs at least 80 percent enrichment. The fueling and start up will tak... Continue reading...

President Obama signed a $600 million border security bill this morning in the Oval Office with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano at his side. If there ever was a more clueless couple in this world, I've yet to hear about it. The bill calls for hiring 1,000 new Border Patrol Agents and more Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. We don't need more Border Patrol agents. We need armed guards sitting atop a 30 foot wall betwe... Continue reading...

The surging wildfires in Russia seem to be getting the upper hand right now during the hottest summer in the country's history. The fires are spreading to the Bryansk region, where in 1986 a nuclear reactor exploded and sent radioactive clouds over a wide area. Scientists are afraid that the dust that settled in the Chernobyl area could be redistributed by smoke from the fires to a larger region and pose a threat to the population. Russian officials claim that they have this situation unde... Continue reading...

A huge chunk of the Petersen Glacier has broken off in Greenland and is heading south, believed to be a victim of global warming. This ice island, three times the size of Manhattan, may be heading for the Canadian shore of Newfoundland, where there are numerous oil rigs. If such a massive piece of ice moves into that area, the danger of yet another massive oil spill is a possibility. This is the same area where an iceberg sank the Titanic in 1912. To further emphasize the size of this ice... Continue reading...

Research In Motion, maker of BlackBerry phones, has been singled out as a security threat recently in the Middle East because of the secure encryption it uses, which makes it impossible for outside sources to decode E-mails and messages sent with these phones. Saudi Arabia has issued a ban on BlackBerries, which may be lifted as soon as that country can evaluate the security and encryption codes that Research In Motion has supplied them with. India is getting in on the action now, citing Bl... Continue reading...

Scientists studying the effects of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico say that the larvae of blue crabs taken in for study have shown widespread oil contamination. The transparent larvae are for the most part showing tiny drops of orange oil inside their bodies. This is a small amount, but the predators that feed on them take them in by the hundreds, and as the crabs mature, they will be eaten by more complex animals such as tuna, cranes, and racoons, leading to contamination of the ent... In the last few years, nations have viewed America's invasions of weaker countries and the installation of puppet governments friendly to the United States in them as a hostile move, but there was little they could do about it. Some countries, such as Iran and North Korea, are developing nuclear capabilities to hold us at bay, but now the largest threat may be coming out of China. They are developing a new weapon called the Dong Feng 21 D, which is being called an aircraft carrier killer. ... Continue reading...
