That 7.1 quake that struck New Zealand over the weekend continues to bring more problems to theis island nation that's been struggling to break out of an 18 month recession. It wasn't the shakeup many people want to happen in the nation's capital, but a moderate earthquake struck Washington D.C. at 5:04 Friday morning. The quake was a 3.6 and was centered in Rockville, Maryland at a depth of 3.1 miles. It was the strongest event recorded in the area since records started being kept in 1974. It was a warm afternoon and an idyllic setting, but the quiet was shattered on Wednesday in Southern California by a moderately strong earthquake that was felt in most of the area. The temblor hit at 4:53 PM, and most people reported a similar experience. A rumbling was heard, followed by a wavy motion which lasted ten to fifteen seconds.
