TV Stations' Greed Resurfaces

Posted by ChiefJack Hawk on Monday, October 25, 2010, In : Television
Broadcast television greed has once again reared its ugly head.  You may have noticed that there are now fewer TV shows to watch online.  That's because a few weeks ago broadcasters blocked access to a lot of their shows online in order to boost their profits.  The greedy bastards who run the networks believe that if they delay when their shows go on the Web, they will secure more viewer retention and stem the flow of the audience who are ditching cable and satellite TV for the Internet.  Whi...

TV Providers Just Say No To Fox

Posted by ChiefJack Hawk on Monday, October 18, 2010, In : Television
Northeastern U.S. television provider Cablevision has put its foot down as far as Fox's greed is concerned.  The company was forking over a sum of $70 million a year to carry Fox programming, and when the News Corporation said they now wanted to raise the fee to over $150 million, Cablevision said no, and has allowed Fox TV, National Geographic, and Fox Business and Sports to go dark.  As you know, Dish Network is also refusing to play Fox's mind games and has already dropped Fox Sports, FX, ...

Johnny Depp Visits British School As Jack Sparrow

Posted by ChiefJack Hawk on Friday, October 8, 2010, In : Celebrities
Johnny Depp paid a surprise visit to a school in London this morning in response to a fan letter from one of the students.  Beatrice Delap, eight years old, sent Depp a letter stating that she and her fellow students were having a hard time at Meridian Primary School of Greenwich in their attempt to have a mutiny against their teachers.  The actor is currently filming "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" in nearby Old Naval College, a picturesque 17th century seafaring center, so he ...

Over-employed Seacrest Looking To Steal More Jobs

Posted by ChiefJack Hawk on Friday, October 8, 2010, In : Celebrities
He's at it again! Obnoxious Ryan Seacrest, America's most over-employed troll, is looking to take on ever more jobs for himself by starting his own TV network.  The annoying munchkin is in preliminary talks with talent company CAA, whose requirements for talent are obviously low, and entertainment company AEG. which apparently has no idea what talent is, to finalize plans for the new cable TV network.  Mohawk Radio sources say that the channel would be based on music, pop culture, and lifesty...

New TV Season's First Casualty

Posted by ChiefJack Hawk on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, In : Television
Every year, TV shows come and go, but it's still pretty rare that a show gets axed after only one showing.  This is probably the case for Fox TV's new show "Lone Star".  Fox had big hopes for the drama about a man who juggles two lives and women in Texas because of his nebulous activities.  To give it more chances of survival, it was shoehorned into the schedule after established show "House".  At the end of House, Fox had 11.5 million people tuned in, but they evaporated at 9 PM.  By 9:15, o...

Lady Gaga Fails to Set New Record

Posted by ChiefJack Hawk on Monday, September 13, 2010, In : Music
At last night's MTV Video Music Awards, Lady Gaga won eight Moonman awards, including Video of the Year, but she failed to set a new record.  In fact, all she did was tie a record set twenty four years ago by the Norwegian group A-ha when they got eight awards in 1986 for "Take On Me", a quirky mix of live action and animation which was cutting edge at the time.  The next year, 1987, Peter Gabriel set the new, still unmatched record of nine MTV VMAs for his live and stop-motion turn with "Sle...

People Not Yet Ready For 3D TV

Posted by ChiefJack Hawk on Friday, September 10, 2010, In : Technology
A study just completed by The Neilsen Co. showed a surprising trend.  It seems that nearly fifty percent of people have a negative view of 3D television, and that view was worse in people who actually attended test showings of the medium.  Test subjects who took part in a 30 minute 3D TV test cited a number of concerns.  In a world where no one concentrates on what they're watching on TV because they're too busy talking on their smartphones while updating their Facebook status at the same tim...

TV Audience Is At Record Old Age

Posted by ChiefJack Hawk on Monday, August 16, 2010, In : Television
A new survey reveals that the median age for TV audiences is at a record high of 51, higher than the national median age.  This is actually bad news for the networks because it means that the average TV viewer is actually older than advertisers' target demographic.  That's not entirely surprising since younger people have been abandoning network TV in growing numbers in the past decade.  The growth of video and game rentals shows that younger Americans are no longer willing to set their lives...

TV Cop Arrested In New York City

Posted by ChiefJack Hawk on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, In : Television
Ice T, who has played NYPD detective Fin Tutuola on NBC's "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" was himself arrested on July 20 by New York cops.  He was stopped at the intersection of West 40th Street and 11th Avenue because he wasn't wearing a seat belt while driving a 2009 Cadillac.  Police say that when they ran a check, they discovered his license was suspended.  The rapper/actor was ticketed and then released, but he used his Twitter account to deny the claim, stating he has a valid New...

American Idol Tour Scraps Dates

Posted by ChiefJack Hawk on Thursday, July 8, 2010, In : Television
The American Idol summer tour is suffering from the same malaise that the TV show has had over the last few years: lost audiences.  While Live Nation, the tour organizer's spokesperson, Liz Morentin declined to give a reason for the cancellation of seven shows, Mohawk Radio sources managed to get a look at the ticket sale reports for the tour, and in the places where the shows were cancelled, American Idol was being outsold by local events at a rate of as much as two to one.  In one venue, le...
