The Obama administration is very much in support of stem cell research, but U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lambreth put a monkey wrench in the gears of this research on Monday.  Taking into consideration the fact that such research could result in cures for such diseases as diabetes and Parkinson's, it's hard to fathom why anyone would want to halt funding for this.  Current federal legislation forbids the use of tax money to fund stem cell research as an offshoot of laws that prevent federal money from being used to destroy embyos and thereby blocks government-funded abortions.  The regulation, because of its broad scope, also nixes federal money for stem cell research, so all the funding has to come from private sources.
