So, big deal, a traffic jam, but we'll bet you've never seen one like this.  The Beijing-Tibet expressway has been anything but "express" since August 14 as a higher than normal amount of heavy cargo trucks heading into Beijing and some road maintenance work have combined to create a traffic jam 100 kilometers long.  In America, the worst traffic jams occur on the 405 freeway heading into Los Angeles, but they've never been that bad.  Local Chinese merchants have capitalized on this traffic nightmare by sending employees into the congested area with carts and selling food and water at overly inflated prices to the stranded drivers.  The present condition is expected to last until mid-September when the roadwork will be done.
