Had Elvis Presley been alive today, he would have been 75.  The King died on August 16, 1977 at age 42, and his home, Graceland, was the site of the annual vigil to mark his passing.  It began last night and lasted until this morning, but the celebration of his life was a weekend-long affair for which fans came and braved 100-degree heat.  Elvis lovers came from as far away as Australia and the Netherlands to be part of the event, and so many people were there last night lining Elvis Presley Boulevard that police closed it off to vehicular traffic.  Elvis fans have the same kind of obsession with their favorite entertainer that Michael Jackson fans exhibit, with people of all ages involved in his music and all things Elvis.
