The Frankenstein Insect Found In Brazil

Paleontologists announced that they founs a new fossil family of animals in Brazil.  Called Coxoplepectoptera, these insects have also come to be called the Frankenstein Insect because, like the legendary literary creature created from various body parts, its body is a conglomerate of several other insects.  It had the wings and middle body of a dragonfly, the tail end of a mayfly (which has been acknowledged as its nearest living relative), and the head and front legs of a praying mantis.  T...

Inmate Caught In Suitcase

A federal prison in Chetumal, Mexico, was the scene of an unusual escape attempt by one of its inmates.  Juan Ramirez was visited by his girlfriend--a conjugal visit---and decided that this was the opportunity he'd been waiting for.  Dressed in just his underpants and socks, he emptied out his girlfriend's suitcase and forced himself into it in a fetal position, hoping to sneak out of jail unseen.  Prison officials got suspicious when the young lady appeared extremely nervous on her way out. ...

Haboob Rushes Through Phoenix Area

Residents of Phoenix, AZ were stunned to witness the march of a huge sand storm, known by its Arabic name of Haboob, through the city on July 5.  The storm, fifty miles wide and packing winds of over 50 miles an hour, howled its way through with clouds of choking sand hundreds of feet tall, turning late afternoon into night like a solar eclipse.  Residents were forced to retreat indoors, and travellers in their cars pulled over to the side of the streets and highways to wait out the storm.  S...
